We aim to improve the conditions for women and children and make life better for families, especially those living in rural and remote Australia.

Welcome to the blog space of the Country Womens Association of Victoria's Yarra Valley Group.
Our group encompasses four branches located within the Yarra Valley - Wandin (Day Time) Monbulk (Day Time) Healesville (Nite Chicks) Wanallock (evenings) and Monbulk Lady Hawks (evenings)

Reduced Membership cost to any Juniors (young girls and High School/Tafe students - up to the age of 21).

It is with deep regret that the unexpected death of
Rosemary Curran
passed away 18th November 2015 at the end of a Caribbean Cruise
with three friends in New Orleans USA
a beautiful gentle soul who will be sadly missed by all

Rosemary lived on her own in Mooroolbark and decided to join the CWA of Wandin approx. seven years ago.
A large tribute goes out for her position as "Branch Conservation Officer" for most of this time where she researched, examined & shared her stories to the full.
Rosemary would have turned 80 in February 2016 & was really looking forward to family & friends social aspects.
She lived on her own (outliving two husbands) and had no children of her own she had a very full life.  Loved and cared for by her two much younger brothers and their families, friends and members of the organisations she belonged to.
Her brothers (Robert and Peter Alexander) have donated $300 to the Wandin Branch in Rosemary's memory allocated to a suitable organisation in the Valley.

Yarra Valley CWA: October 2014 and October 1953

Hello readers!

Here we are, half way through Spring of 2014 and the Yarra Valley CWA branches have been busy all year with various projects. We have run stalls at local events, held special days to raise awareness and funds for particular issues, heard from guest speakers about a wide variety of topics from family violence to post-polio syndrome, provided assistance (either monetary or material) to families and groups locally, nationally and internationally and greatly enjoyed each other's company along the way. At this time of the year our branches start reflecting on the previous year's efforts and looking towards our goals for the next twelve months. It's time for Annual General Meetings, paying of subscription fees and planning what activities we want to get involved with in the next year. A fresh start, a chance to focus on new projects and, as always, a great time to welcome new members.

In the spirit of reflecting on the past, I thought I'd bring to you a little snippet from the history of the Yarra Valley CWA. An article published in the Healesville Guardian on October 16th, 1953, 61 years ago, shows us a very different CWA to the one we have in operation today. The article reports on a drama festival which was used as a fundraiser at the time. The number of branches competing was impressive, the audience of 200 even more so. The winning performances from the day were to be performed at the Lilydale Athenaeum Theatre at a later date.

This sounds like a fun way to spend a day and raise funds, doesn't it? Whilst the current Yarra Valley Group does not have a Group Drama Secretary as existed 61 years ago, the CWA does offer opportunity for members interested in public speaking, singing and performance to get involved in such activities. If this sounds like something you may be interested in, why not speak to some of your local CWA members about it?

Welcome to a new year at Yarra Valley CWA

Welcome back to CWA activities in 2014!

We hope you all had a wonderful holiday season and a restful break, spent some time with loved ones and got to do something you really enjoyed.

Yarra Valley Group are starting the year off nice and early with Group conference, to be hosted by Healesville Night Chicks, planned for Saturday 8th of February in Healesville.  If you want in on the individual competition on the day, you will need to bring along three pots of preserves - that's three different sorts.  These will afterwards be sent into headquarters for State Fair.

On Saturday the 15th of February Wandin Branch are holding a fundraising BBQ at Bunnings Bayswater, so come along and say hello, grab a snag and show you care.

Updates on other branches and activities to come as they hit my desk - stay tuned for more in the near future!
